What IS the Heartbleed Bug? This sounds serious!
Well, quite frankly, it is. The Heartbleed Bug is a major online security vulnerability in OpenSSL that can easily put your information at risk- including your passwords, emails, banking, and credit card information. CNN has reported that nearly two-thirds of all web servers worldwide use OpenSSL, so you can imagine what a large scale catastrophe this has been and may still be for months to come.
How was Easy Pay Direct affected?
Thankfully, it hasn’t been. When the vulnerability was first revealed, Easy Pay Direct performed several comprehensive scans and tests of our public systems and found that none had been attacked by the Heartbleed Bug.
Great news! Now what?
For starters, you can check a sites vulnerability by using the online tool in the link below and attempt to determine which sites/services you rely on were affected by the bug. Since the bug was so widespread, its probable that some of the online services you use were hacked. Luckily, most companies and websites have taken steps to address the problem by issuing updates and alerting customers.
Once you’ve determined a site is now considered safe, change your password on that site immediately! If you find a site may still be vulnerable, DO NOT log into that site until they have issued an update and fixed their bug. Changing your password before a site has fixed their security flaw won’t help your cause, as you’ll just be exposing your new password.
